Thanks for coming to the most recent Network Group meeting!

Michelle Holt, JDRF Special Events Assistant, presented the latest information on the Kids’ Walk to Cure Diabetes program. The benefits of the program include:

* Fundraising for a T1 diabetes cure, with 10% of proceeds going back to the school
* Educational component, as kids and parents learn the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
* Gives kids a sense of giving back
* Often connects kids with a diabetic relative, friend, or neighbor
* Kids have fun and release energy through a walk, run, obstacle course, etc. (indoor or outdoor)
* Kids receive prizes for fundraising

Kids WalkHaving a parent initiator or advocate at the school is great. Contact Michelle (mholt@jdrf.org ) if you’re interested in a walk at your child’s school. Michelle works with interested parties, such as parents/parent clubs, principals, gym teachers, nurses, etc. to make the kids’ walks easy and fun.

Sign up to do your Kids Walk fundraising online!

Kids WalkDid you know that 40 kids are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) each day in the United States alone? That’s like a whole classroom of kids! Can you imagine?

But that’s why many schools in our area are hosting a JDRF Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes —so that they can help our community and the kids and families that are affected by T1D.

These schools have signed up to make a difference!

West Middleton Elementary 4/19/13
Yahara Elementary 5/2/13
Prairie View Middle School 5/3/13
Randall Elementary 5/20/13
UW Preschool Lab 6/6/13
Schenk Elementary 6/7/13
Shorewood Hills Elementary 6/7/13

Want to help us? It’s really not hard at all!

If you’re a student, parent, teacher, or school staff member, you can walk with us (it’s so much fun!) by clicking on your school link above or JDRF Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes and registering for the Walk. When you register, you’ll get your own personal fundraising page and access to a lot of great fundraising tools! And did we mention how much fun it is?!

If you’re a friend, family member, co-worker, or neighbor, you can help, too! You can support one of our walkers by making a donation (he or she will be so excited!). The funds that we raise will support research to cure, treat, and prevent T1D.

Please see Kids Walk Program for more information or to Volunteer.
