About JDRF
JDRF is the global leader in funding research toward a cure for type 1 diabetes. It sets the agenda for diabetes research worldwide and is the largest charitable funder of and advocate of type 1 research.
JDRF was founded in 1970 by parents of children with type 1 diabetes. JDRF volunteers have a personal connection to type 1 diabetes, which translates into an unrelenting committment to finding a cure. These volunteers are the driving force behind more than 100 locations worldwide that raise money and advocate for government spending for type 1 diabetes research.
Since its founding, JDRF has funded more than $1.4 billion in research toward our mission: to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications. Even in a difficult economy, JDRF was able to fund $101 million in research last year – only the sixth time in our history that we passed the $100 million mark in research support. JDRF funded research projects in 22 countries throughout the world, including more than 40 human clinical trials.
With an unwavering focus on our mission to find a cure, JDRF annually receives top rankings from magazines and organizations that rate charities. More than 80 percent of our expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
