Welcome to Lynne, Joanne (Henry, 5), and Lynn and Lorraine! I’m so glad you found the networking group and look forward to seeing you at future meetings, as we all share information to help each other.
Gena Van Kirk, RD, CDE and Territory Manager for Animas, was our guest speaker. Gena discussed the waterproof Ping pump and meter (pings information back and forth), with the pump being available in 5 colors. Animas is working toward supplying a line of pumps to fit different patient needs. Their artificial pancreas project is 4-5 years out for the first generation, prior to FDA approval. View their website: http://www.animas.com/ which contains lots of information along with a reminder to pay attention to all pump warnings, as well as to disconnect PRIOR to rewinding, loading or priming. Feel free to contact Gena at 608-397-7756 or gvankirk@its.jnj.com if you have questions or concerns.
I want to thank you all for the many questions at this meeting. That’s how we all learn more, to keep the discussion of new information flowing. What one doesn’t think of, another will, or we can build on the last question asked. And the speakers do enjoy and appreciate the questions, so they don’t have to just present what they feel may be “dry” material.
Thanks once again to our faithful sitters, who make it possible for more parents to attend!
Please note the annual JDRF meeting tonight is located at the Edgewood west campus, 1255 Deming Way, not on Monroe Street.
Please place July 27 on your calendar for our next meeting, with back to school issues, forms and 504 plans presented by Beth VandenLangenberg (UW Hospital Pediatric Nurse Practitioner) and Laurie McLeod (Middleton network group leader).
Take care, until we meet again, Eileen
