8/24/10 – Network Meeting notes
Posted by Western Wisconsin in Outreach, Support on August 25, 2010
Welcome to Mary (Molly, 5) and Jerry (Alexis, 4)! And yes, things do get better, with the first 6 months being the hardest. Feel free to ask us questions, discuss your situations and suggest topics for future meetings. Together we learn more and come up to speed more quickly.
Rick Andrews, from Abbott, discussed their Freestyle meters and their newest test strip which rolled out on 7/15/10. The strip requires only .1 micrometer of blood, (the least in the industry) and can be reused within 60 seconds – less errors and wasted test strips. Their Freestyle lancet is less painful and can be used on the palm for the same readings as the finger tips. Their Promise Program supplements the co-pay difference for strips and assigns diabetic educators in case your primary ones are not available. Rick always tells it like it is, and delivers his information with a good sense of humor!
Thanks again to our great sitters: Paige, Kerry, Dana and Kara! Your presence is more valuable than babysitting, as the younger kids look up to you as their role models.
Jamie Marvin, from Omnipod will be speaker at the Sept. 28 meeting, at a new meeting place (details later).
Take care, until we meet again,
Eileen
Congratulations La Crosse Ride to Cure Diabetes Participants!

Team Western Wisconsin put on a fabulous show in La Crosse this past weekend at the Ride to Cure Diabetes! Our 36 riders met or exceeded their goals on a positively FANTASTIC Mighty Mississippi 100-mile course in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa. Coaches Joe Brady and Jeanne Grist ensured that all participants finished the ride safe and sound.
Special thanks to the Western Wisconsin volunteers who manned rest stop #2 with great Midwest flare and fun!

Children’s Congress contest on Facebook
Posted by Western Wisconsin in Advocacy & Research on August 16, 2010
Have you checked out the Children’s Congress contest on Facebook? If not, be sure to do so and apply to the 2011 Children’s Congress (CC11) via Facebook for yourself or your loved ones!
As part of the CC11 roll out on FB, any application submitted during the month of August 2010 using our FB application will be entered into a contest where one application will be randomly selected to by-pass the review process and immediately be awarded a slot to CC11. Keep in mind that going to CC11 still requires that all applicants be between the age of 4 and 17 on the first day of CC11.
Applications can still be submitted via FB after August 2010, but they will not be eligible for the contest. If you’re interested in applying to CC11, be sure to do it in August on FB.
